  • {'name': 'Water', 'quantity': 4.0, 'unit': 'cup'}
  • {'name': 'Salt', 'quantity': 2.0, 'unit': 'tablespoon'}
  • {'name': 'Monosodium Glutamate', 'quantity': 1.0, 'unit': 'tablespoon'}
  • {'name': 'Chicken Stock', 'quantity': 4.0, 'unit': 'cup'}
  • {'name': 'Fresh White Bread', 'quantity': 8.0, 'unit': 'slice'}
  • {'name': 'Eggs', 'quantity': 8.0, 'unit': 'unit'}

Instructions

  1. Put the oil and garlic into a very heavy large pot.
  2. Sauté until almost golden brown.
  3. Add the water, salt, monosodium glutamate and chicken stock.
  4. Simmer for 3 hours.
  5. Check the seasoning.
  6. Place a slice of bread in each soup bowl.
  7. Put a ladle of the hot soup into each bowl on top of the bread.
  8. Immediately on top of the bread break an egg so it congeals.
  9. Serve.
  10. Can be made a day ahead and refrigerated; to serve, reheat and follow serving steps.
