This large salad is made from romaine and iceberg lettuces, carrots, red cabbage, generous amounts of chopped salami, turkey, Swiss and Colby Jack cheeses, sliced hard-boiled egg, wedges or diced beefsteak tomatoes and your choice of dressing.

We actually cook whole fresh, local chickens (never, ever frozen) for our homemade chicken salad, which was named “Best in America” by Gourmet magazine because, frankly, it is. It includes chicken, celery, grapes, walnuts, fancy mayo and our proprietary blend of herbs and seasonings. Try it on our freshly baked sourdough or a flaky croissant.
Two words, chicken schmaltz. We make our own from all of the whole, fresh chickens that we get from Central Indiana and it is a key ingredient in Chopped Liver. You can get a sandwich or a “schmear” of chopped liver on top of another sandwich. My favorite is our rye bread heels, crusty and crunchy with a scoop of our creamy and rich chopped liver.
We’ve bought our CB from Vienna Beef, Chicago since the 1930’s. It’s because we use the best cuts of beef that it has such incredible flavor. We slow-cook it in-house with our century old family recipe. Piled high on our mouthwatering rye, Swiss with mustard, it is our number one pick!
We buy whole cabbages, chop them ourselves, and make our own Shapiro’s family recipe coleslaw from scratch.
We boil the eggs ourselves - most of the others used eggs that were boiled weeks ago and sprayed with chemicals. Only the best of the best ingredients at Shapiro's Deli.

Maybe you saw this on tv. Marc Summer’s favorite sandwich aired on his show, “Best Thing I Ever Ate” (Check us out on YouTube). Our beef round is salted, washed, cured for a few days then peppered, smoked, and dusted with a little sugar and paprika. It’s a slow process but it is definitely worthy of the wait!
Turning our pastrami into “bacon” may have been a mistake one of our customers made by over heating their meat, but it turned into a fantastic new sandwich. Pastrami, Lettuce, (local) Indiana Tomatoes is such a great combination of flavor. You choose the bread.
Our ground beef comes from Hoosier cows from DeWig Meats in Haubstadt, IN. The only FDA certified facility in the state of Indiana! We use a 3 generation old recipe from our Great Uncle Abe’s days as a chef in New York. The bread crumbs do make this not friendly to our gluten free friends.
Another fabulous sandwich in the best of the best beef category. Our rare roast beef is cooked to a beautiful pink tenderness for a moist treat on any bread. Custom made for Shapiro’s Delicatessen from the original Wilno recipe. They used to be a Kosher brand of salami and other meats that went the way of the big box buy-out. If you look at our salami label, you’ll see the Shapiro logo.

Great Uncle Max started making our potato latkes much larger than normal! But we still give you two anyway. The crunchy outer part is the best for dipping in apple sauce or sour cream. You pick which you want to go with your order.
Again with the hand peeling of the potatoes! It is extra labor, but it tasted so much better because it's fresh. Others buy bags of cubed potatoes that are sprayed with chemicals and we wouldn't do that!
