Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 8:00 PM EDT Home Star While Home Star may be new to the scene, Evan Lescallette (Home Star’s sole songwriter) has always been writing music. Though the bulk of A Binding Life was written from 2020 to 2023 as the COVID-19 pandemic settled into an unnerving routine, traces of Home Star’s debut album go all the way back to 2015. The record is a culmination of change, discovery, turmoil, and love. Each song is made up of the painstaking attention to detail Lescallette pours into all of his songwriting, with each phrase, riff, and harmony forming an intricate vision board molded into a meticulous frame. As he sings on “Weekends”, “You want to know what’s in the back of my head?” – well, it’s certainly not “nothing” as he later says, but years and years of writing and refining. There’s a little bit of everything on A Binding Life. Some bits can be found in the surf rock and garage indie influences nestled in the underbelly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, while other bits stem from a deep rooted affection for punk rock and a soft spot for an anthemic chorus. Perhaps most prominent, though, is an underlying sense of acceptance and comfort despite the general unease in the lyrics throughout the album. Comfort in the sense of place, in identity, and in accepting things outside one’s control. “Even if the sky was falling down / We’d find space” Lescallette sings at the beginning of “Bunker”, a sentiment that bubbles to the top over and over again as each song makes its way through some form of rock odyssey. This is a big album in most ways. Recorded at Philadelphia’s Hidden Fortress by Kieran Ferris and mastered by Todd Mecaughey, A Binding Life storms its way through 13 (!!) songs and spans genres, all while staying firmly planted in the punk rock ethos. There are love songs, sad songs, angry songs, ballads, songs about religion, songs about loss, songs about home town news, brought together in a robust medley of raging guitars and drums (played by Tim McMonigle) that creates Home Star’s signature flavor of rock and, this can’t be emphasized enough, roll. India Ramey After the success of her fiery 2024 LP, Baptized By The Blaze, Nashville outlaw siren India Ramey is back with Villain Era, set for release on May 8, 2026, via Copaco Records/Blue Élan. Baptized By The Blaze was the story of Ramey’s journey through the fire, a harrowing passage toward healing and empowerment. Villain Era is firmly rooted in her own reckoning; it doesn’t ask for permission, it kicks the door wide open. “This album is the ‘healed’ me,” Ramey says. “I didn’t know how to have boundaries because I was such a people pleaser. When you live your life that way, you lose sight of who you really are. I’ve spent the last few years finding my authentic self, reclaiming my identity. The title track, ‘Welcome To My Villain Era,’ is me saying I’m not going to suffer fools anymore. I’m not compromising anymore. If my boundaries offend you, I’ll happily play the villain in that story.” Armed with that conviction and a new batch of songs, Ramey left the South for the first time to record in Los Angeles with two-time Grammy-nominated producer Eric Corne. Together, they built a soundscape as cinematic as it is cathartic. Ramey, whose fans have taken to calling her “The Woman In Black” and “the Wednesday Addams of country music,” told Corne she wanted the album to sound like Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn had risen from the grave to score a Quentin Tarantino film. Corne assembled a powerhouse band to help her pull it off, including Ted Russell Kamp (Shooter Jennings) on bass, Eugene Edwards (Dwight Yoakam) and Chris Masterson (Steve Earle, The Mastersons, The Wallflowers) on guitar, Eleanor Whitmore (Steve Earle & The Dukes, The Mastersons) on fiddle, Kevin Brown on drums, Boo Bernstein (Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam) on pedal steel, and Haley Spence Brown (The Doohickeys) on backing vocals. “He didn’t just listen to me, he heard me,” Ramey says of Corne. “The musicians were equally respectful of what my vision was, and they went above and beyond. It was the most collaborative, emboldening recording experience I've ever had.” The result is Villain Era: ten spaghetti western–meets–honky tonk vignettes, penned solely by Ramey, laced with grit, gallows humor, and emotional precision. With the first notes of opener “We Ride at Dawn,” Ramey puts her boots on the ground and reclaims her territory. A callback to “King of the Ashes” from her 2020 LP Shallow Graves, the song rises from the rubble with reverb, ghostly pedal steel, and the promise of revenge from the women who survived. On “Scattered and Smothered,” Ramey trades the battlefield for a Waffle House booth at 2 a.m., where heartbreak meets hangover in a haze of regret. “Well I’m a hot mess, I must confess / Ever since he brought up takin’ next steps / And my drunk ass needs some hash browns and scrambled eggs,” she sings, As patrons fight, chairs fly, and late-night shenanigans ensue in the background, our heroine is lost in thought, hoping the grease soaks up the memories of the night she’s attempting to put in her rearview. The tone turns bittersweet on “Crying in My Lingerie,” a deceptively upbeat breakup song that captures the loneliness of a woman who’s realizing her marriage is over. Doing her best to fan the flames of something long since gone, she drowns her sorrows in boxed wine. Dressed in the now-meaningless symbols of desire and devotion, she realizes she’s become a divorcee in waiting. Throughout Villain Era, Ramey explores what it means to step fully into oneself after years of just trying to survive. “There’s a lot of freedom in knowing yourself,” she says. “It makes you feral. But in these times, joy is resistance. We should be having some fun, too.” Saving Country Music once wrote, “Many of the women in country music these days love to sing about lighting stuff on fire to symbolically tease their empowerment. With India Ramey, you think she’ll actually haul off and do it.” It’s an apt description for an artist who doesn’t just tell stories of strength, she lives them out loud. With five studio albums under her belt, Ramey continues to be one of country music’s fiercest truth-tellers. Her 2017 breakout Snake Handler landed her on Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.” Her 2020 “post-apocalyptic western” album, Shallow Graves, earned international recognition, debuting at #6 on the Euro Americana Chart. Monday, August 31, 2026 at 8:00 PM EDT Murder Junkies The Murder Junkies are an American rock band, most known for being the actual backing band of deceased punk rock performer GG Allin. They are the third GG Allin backing band to bear the name. The original Murder Junkies was a Texas band - formed independently of Allin - which performed as his backing band for several live dates in the late 1980s. (See Allin's unfinished autobiography for further brief details). The second Murder Junkies was a studio band (including Allin's friend Mark Sheehan on guitar) which recorded the "Watch Me Kill" 6 track e.p., released on Fuckin' A/Stomach Ache Records in 1991. Murder Junkies mark III - the subject of this article and a distinct entity from the other two bands of the same name - was formed in 1991 as GG Allin's new backing band, and rehearsed while he concluded his then-current prison sentence. The original line-up consisted of guitarist "Chicken" John Rinaldi (San Francisco mayoral candidate in 2007), GG's elder brother Merle "Pinky" Allin on bass, and drummer Donald "Dino Sex" Sachs. Rinaldi left the band later in 1991, and voiced negative opinions about the experience in the documentary Hated: GG Allin And The Murder Junkies, directed by Todd Phillips. He was replaced on guitar by William Weber. Dee Dee Ramone was recruited at the same time as Weber, but quit shortly thereafter, having never played any live dates with the band. GG Allin & the Murder Junkies recorded their sole studio album, "Brutality and Bloodshed for All", for Alive Records in the spring of 1993. Their subsequent tour - shortly succeeded by Allin's death from an apparent drug overdose on June 28 of the same year - was chronicled by roadie Evan Cohen in the slim volume I Was A Murder Junkie: The Last Days Of GG Allin. Sachs, Pinky, and Weber decided to continue the band, and recruited a new singer, Michael [last name unknown] ("Mike Denied"), singer with New York City band The Denied. They released a mini-album "Feed My Sleaze" in 1995. A 7" single "The Right To Remain Violent" appeared the following year. Murder Junkies [III] toured as a GG Allin tribute band throughout the 1990s and went through several more vocalists, including Michael ("Mike") Hudson, formerly of Pagans, Jeffrey ("Jeff") Clayton of Antiseen, and J.B. Beverley, a musician from the Washington, D.C. area. Murder Junkies [III] broke up in 1999. They reformed (with Clayton singing) for a tour in the spring of 2003: the 10th anniversary of GG Allin's death. They performed alongside a version of GG's first band, The Jabbers, for several shows. In 2005, they completed a tour of continental Europe. In 2006, they appeared at two shows supporting CKY, and toured as the opening act for Hank Williams III. In 2011, they headlined one show that featured such greats as The Pier Six Brawlers, and the Vaginas. The band currently features Merle "Pinky" Allin, Donald "Dino Sex" Sachs, Benjamin "FC Murder" Bunny (formerly "Sonny" Harlan), and new singer Harold "PG Duvay" Rogers. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals, Mary Huff – bass and vocals, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows ( Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show ), from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, parodied by Weird Al, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.” At Home with Southern Culture on the Skids is the latest full length album from the band and was released in March of 2021. It was recorded during the stay at home period of the pandemic when the band was at home and not touring. The album consists of 11 tracks recorded and mixed in Rick Miller’s living room with some additional tracks recorded at his studio, The Kudzu Ranch. The first radio single off the album is “ Run Baby Run ”—a rocking number with deep garage roots. SCOTS bassist Mary Huff provides an urgent vocal while the band pulls back the throttle on a full race fuzz fest—cause she’s gotta to go fast! Run Baby Run! The other songs on the album are a combination of the band’s unique mix of musical genres: rock and roll, surf, folk and country—all a bit off-center, what Rick proudly calls “our wobbly Americana”. Rick goes on, “We put a few more acoustic guitars on this one, as you would expect if you recorded in your living room, but it still rocks like SCOTS.
