Caffe Luxxe

This Italian name translates to "American coffee". It originated during WWII when American soldiers stationed in Italy diluted espresso with hot water to recreate the drip coffee they were used to from back home. The Italian baristas were amused by this adaptation and began calling it "Caffe Americano" or "Americano".

Named after an iconic rocks glass with arches on the side and a tapered octagonal bottom. It is prepared nearly the same way as a cappuccino, except served in a Gibraltar glass which tends to retain heat less than ceramic, so the drink temperature is cooler.

In Italian, the word means "stained" or "marked". A macchiato is an espresso drink, topped with a small amount of foamed milk to allow the taste of the espresso to shine through.
